A sauna hat is a small part of your ritual, but the material behind it matters. At Nordic Noggin, our hats are handcrafted from 100% wool felt at a thickness of 3mm. It's a deliberate choice with a simple purpose: an insulating layer around your head and ears for a more comfortable sauna session.

Wool felt, not just any wool hat

Felt describes how the fabric is made. Rather than being knitted into loops, its fibres are matted together into a sheet. That gives wool felt a different structure from an everyday knitted toque.

For a Noggin, the role of that fabric is insulation. Think of it as a thermal shield between your head and the surrounding sauna heat. Our focus is comfort in the sauna, not simply warmth outdoors.

Why 3mm?

We chose 3mm wool felt to provide a thermal barrier around your head and ears. It's the thickness behind our design, selected for the job we want a Noggin to do.

That doesn't mean thickness alone tells the whole story, or that one hat will perform identically for everyone. Fit, coverage, and personal comfort matter too. A sauna hat is a comfort accessory, not protection against overheating or a reason to push through discomfort.

100% wool, clearly stated

Our Noggins are handcrafted from 100% wool felt. We want you to know what you're putting on your head, so the material is part of the product story, not a detail tucked away.

Our wool is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, a certification for textiles tested for harmful substances. It's an important part of our material choice, but not a claim that a hat makes sauna use risk-free.

Simple care is part of the ritual

Looking after a Noggin doesn't need to become another project. After each session, rinse it with cool water and let it air dry in a warm environment.

Keep it out of the washing machine. Heat and agitation can felt the wool further, causing the hat to shrink and changing its fit. Gentle care helps preserve the hat you chose.

Our approach doesn't end when your hat arrives. If a stitch comes loose or your Noggin needs a repair, email admin@nordicnoggin.ca. We'll provide a pre-paid shipping label, hand-mend your hat, and return it to you refreshed, free of charge.
